Growers need simple, effective equipment options to place nitrogen above the root zone. The Yetter 2968 Fertilizer Opener is an easy-to-install solution that fits a variety of planting setups.
The 2968 achieves consistent off-the-row placement of liquid or starter nitrogen fertilizer. With the 2968, you don’t have to make a costly separate fertilizer pass. It mounts right to your planter and runs alongside your row cleaners and closing wheels, without interfering with gauge wheels or depth settings.
Poor fertilizer placement negatively impacts yields and puts your nitrogen investment at risk. Yetter 2968 Fertilizer Openers deliver precision placement under the soil surface, helping you achieve maximum yield potential.
HERE'S HOW:
Figure A: Placing nutrients just to the side and slightly below the seed puts them on-target to intercept emerging roots. When roots hit that zone, there is a growth explosion. As more roots develop, they also encounter the fertilizer for an ongoing boost during critical growth stages.
Figure B: Almost half of a corn plant’s roots are within 12" of the soil surface during tasseling. This means that your precision-placed fertilizer keeps working through the life of the plant.
Yetter 2968 Fertilizer Openers are available with single or dual blades, so nitrogen can be placed in bands on one side of the row or both. You can choose either a spring-loaded knife or an injection kit.
Because of their compact design, 2968 Fertilizer Openers are quick and easy to install. The units weigh 45–56 lbs. The disc is located behind the gauge wheel, eliminating fertilizer and damp soil buildup and leaving room for other attachments to be mounted on the front of the row unit.

The Yetter 2968 Dual Fertilizer Opener is PFR Proven. In 2020, Beck’s Practical Farm Research found that the 2968 Fertilizer Opener had the same or better yield advantage* when compared to other fertilizer placement systems. In the same study, it was estimated that the 2968 would pay for itself in 224 acres, approximately half the time of other methods in the study.
Beck’s Practical Farm Research provides unbiased, farmer-focused research through studies conducted across the Midwest. A Beck’s PFR Proven product or practice provides a positive yield increase during three or more years of testing. Products must average a positive return on investment during that time.
*Please remember yield results vary based on many factors each year. Always consider your unique operation when deciding what equipment to invest in. Data found here is only a starting point.
