Open position: Tool Room/Research & Development Supervisor

 

Job Summary:  This position designs, builds, and maintains weld and assembly fixtures to ensure the quality and consistency of parts, as well and any fixtures and piece parts needed to complete prototype production and testing for Research and Development.  Supervises Tool Room and Research and Development staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures equipment is maintained and operating properly.
  • Ensures high quality, efficient, and effective production and/or operations.
  • Performs typical responsibilities of supervision including planning, evaluating, organizing, training, coaching, and discipline as indicated.
  • Coordinates and communicates with other shifts and/or departments to ensure smooth and efficient operation of department.
  • Monitors availability of supplies, parts, and materials and orders materials the department may need, including raw materials, tooling, and welding supplies.
  • Schedule and assign jobs to department employees for fixture and tool maintenance and repair.
  • Work with various departments to make any adjustments necessary to existing tooling.
  • Troubleshoot fitment problems with production parts and perform any necessary work.
  • Assist maintenance with any repair machining they may need.
  • Verify quality of work when tasks are finished.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by complying with procedures rules/regulations and safety guidelines.
  • Adheres to and supports 5S 1.
  • Adheres to and supports the ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Performs other duties or projects as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Proficient in CAD software.
  • Proficient in CNC programming.
  • Must be able to operate precision measuring tools such as; micrometers, bore gauges, Vernier scales, and DRO’s
  • Able to operate manual lathes, mills, saws, and grinding equipment.
  • Proficient mig welder.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 2 years in the machining trade.
  • Previous supervisory experience in a machining or manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to motivate, train, develop and supervise personnel.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize.
  • Must be able to read and write; must have basic math and computer skills, which includes Outlook, Excel, and the ability to use and learn other software as required.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally both written and verbally across all departments within the organization.
  • Ability to effectively operate department related tools and equipment.
  • Ability and willingness to attain forklift licensure, as well as, tractor.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively, meeting deadlines.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Physically active position requiring medium to heavy work with consistent lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs.; requires exerting force.
  • Requires being able to stand and walk for long periods of time; 98% of the shift requires standing and/or walking, including overtime requirements. .
  • To perform the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, reach to, below or above shoulder level, lift, carry, push, pull and use hands and/or fingers to handle, grasp, manipulate, grip and use tools.
  • Essential duties and responsibilities are typically performed while standing or while intermittently sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, crouching or stooping; requires reaching, pushing, pulling, and gripping/grasping. Repetitive motions may be applicable to certain tasks.
  • Visual acuity and hand/eye coordination; requires the ability to see and hear.
  • Regular exposure to noise and vibration from pneumatic tools, moving machines, fumes, and occasionally airborne dust and particles.
  • Regular exposure to seasonal temperature changes in the work environment.
  • Requires steel/composite safety footwear and safety eye protection at all times.
