Maintenance Supervisor

 

Open position: Maintenance Supervisor

 

Job Summary:  The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for managing maintenance personnel and coordinating maintenance activities for the building, grounds, and equipment in support of production and the organization.  This position works hands-on as part of the maintenance team and oversees, directs and performs work in all areas of maintenance, including but not limited to HVAC, production equipment, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, mechanical, and other building or production systems. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that maintenance work is properly planned and scheduled; reviews maintenance work orders, prioritizes jobs and assigns maintenance staff accordingly.
  • Ensures that all maintenance activities and operations are conducted efficiently and safely and that all systems and equipment are functioning appropriately; evaluates equipment, systems, and facilities to determine maintenance or repairs that need to be performed.
  • Assists maintenance staff with technical issues or advanced problems with projects or assignments.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains maintenance and janitorial staff; conducts periodic performance reviews; performs coaching, counseling, and issues discipline as indicated.
  • Interprets and enforces company policies and safety regulations with all maintenance and janitorial staff.
  • Conducts training for department or other staff, which may include, but is not limited to, new or upgraded equipment, supplies, or processes.
  • May consult with outside vendors or contractors to obtain service information such as price, availability and product or services specifications; may schedule and assist vendors/contractors for system or equipment upgrades or repairs.
  • Coordinates with supervisors and departments to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
  • Complies with safety regulations and maintains a clean and orderly work area following 5S 1 principles.
  • Adheres to and supports the ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Performs other job duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associates Degree or certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance preferred.
  • Five years of related experience; previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of building and equipment systems including but not limited to plumbing, electrical and HVAC.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical production equipment with demonstrated troubleshooting and repair skills.
  • Demonstrated skills of single and 3-phase electrical as well as control wiring.
  • For safety, performance, and productivity, must be able to read, write and speak English and follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; excellent planning and leadership abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate to the maintenance team.
  • Ability to identify issues and to determine repairs that are needed.
  • Ability to plan and implement maintenance schedules for building equipment and systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and use measuring instruments; read, interpret, and follow instructions, work orders, and engineered drawings.
  • PLC programming experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn other software and programs.
  • Basic understanding of production and/or manufacturing environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read and understand all safety operating procedures and to use all safety features and equipment.
  • Ability to qualify for and retain fork lift licensure.
  • Ability and availability to work any shift and required overtime, which may include longer shifts and/or additional shifts in the workweek.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.

 

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Physically active position requiring medium to heavy work with consistent lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires pushing and pulling up to 75 lbs.; requires exerting force.
  • Requires being able to stand and walk for long periods of time; 90% of the shift, including overtime, requires standing and/or walking.
  • To perform the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, reach to, below or above shoulder level/overhead, lift, carry, push, pull and use hands and/or fingers to handle, grasp, manipulate, grip and use tools.
  • Essential duties and responsibilities are typically performed while standing or while intermittently sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, crouching or stooping; requires reaching, pushing, pulling, and gripping/grasping.
  • Visual acuity and hand/eye coordination; requires the ability to see and hear.
  • Regular exposure to noise and vibration from pneumatic tools, moving machines, fumes, and occasionally airborne dust and particles.
  • Regular exposure to seasonal temperature changes in the work environment.
  • Requires steel/composite safety footwear that meets ANSI standards and safety eye protection at all times.
  • Hearing protection required in specified areas.
