Spray Painter

Open position: Spray Painter


Job Summary:

The spray painter sprays surfaces according to specifications in product drawing and/or routing of the part with wet dip or powder coat paint as indicated by the location of the spray painting operation. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Handles and transports material as assigned.
  • Operates all coating equipment including but not limited to: spray guns (manual and automatic).
  • Hang parts (manually or with hoist or other lifting device) on steel racks or conveyor line for painting.
  • Unplugs certain parts at the paint booth.
  • Controls the speed of the paint line specific to the product being painted.
  • Unload parts (manually or with hoist or other lifting device) from the line after the paint process is complete.
  • Prepare parts for painting, which may include cleaning, sanding, plugging and masking.
  • Cleans paint booth during change-overs.
  • Ability to inspect and decal when required.
  • Follows instructions to perform assigned and required tasks.
  • Uses tools and equipment to complete assigned jobs.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints and job directions to complete assignments.
  • Communicates with team members and management, participating in problem-solving and providing feedback/recommendations.
  • Prepares, cleans, and maintains a safe workstation/environment by complying with procedures, rules/regulations, and safety guidelines.
  • May be transferred to work in other areas of production as needed.
  • Adheres to and supports 5S 1.
  • Adheres to and supports the ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • For safety, performance and productivity, must be able to read, write, and speak English; ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and follow work instructions at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • High attention to detail and good organizational skills.
  • Capacity to do repetitive work and stand for long periods of time.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn software.
  • Ability to follow directions, written and verbal, and to make decisions and follow through.
  • Ability to use tools and equipment applicable to the manufacturing and spray painting environment.
  • Ability to read blue prints and other written instructions.
  • Ability to qualify for and retain a fork lift license.
  • Ability and availability to work any shift.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Physically active position requiring consistent lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires pushing and pulling up to 75 lbs.; requires exerting force.
  • Requires being able to stand and walk for long periods of time; 98% of the shift, including overtime, requires standing and/or walking.
  • Essential duties and responsibilities are typically performed while standing or while intermittently sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching or stooping; requires reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping.
  • Visual acuity and hand/eye coordination; requires the ability to see and hear.
  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to operate spray gun handle.
  • Must be able to reach overhead for extended periods of time.
  • May be required to be fitted for and to wear respiratory protective equipment.
  • Regular exposure to noise and vibration from pneumatic tools, moving machines, fumes.

 Requires steel/composite safety footwear and safety eye protection at all times; requires hearing protection in specified areas.
