CNC Laser Programmer and Operator (1st Shift)

Open position: CNC Laser Programmer and Operator (1st shift)

 

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Part Fabrication Department Supervisor, this position primarily programs, operates and maintains the automated laser cutting work cell.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produces laser cut parts by programming, setting-up and operating the CNC laser.
  • Interprets technical drawings and blueprints and programs/sets machine up accordingly.
  • Sets up based on material type and thickness; loads programs; sets machine parameters to ensure optimal performance.
  • Performs test runs and makes adjustments until the resulting product meets blueprint specifications.
  • Performs daily cleaning and inspection of the machine.
  • Establishes proper stop location, adjusts laser beam focal point as indicated.
  • Creates and edits laser cut files from CAD drawings; prepares, lays out and arranges parts from the cut files in the laser software for optimal cutting speeds and yields.
  • Uses computer software to model cutting paths and programs machine accordingly; adjusts cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality.
  • Reviews and edits existing programs to improve machine productivity.
  • Runs production to meet production requirements.
  • Maintains consistent and on-going communication with operations management to stay current on production workload priorities.
  • Performs quality and conformance tests to ensure products meet design specifications.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems with laser cutting, automation and programming as they arise.
  • Performs prescribed preventative maintenance as required.
  • Adheres to and supports 5S 1.
  • Adheres to and supports ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Performs other duties or projects as assigned.

 

Qualifications/Skills:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • For safety, performance and productivity must be able to read, write, and speak English and be able to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Proficiency to read and interpret CAD drawings and blue prints.
  • Ability to program according to production requirements.
  • CNC experience preferred.
  • Strong math skills and problem solving abilities.
  • Proficiency with PC in a Windows environment.
  • Ability to learn Bystronic specific laser control and programming software.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet production schedules.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving mechanical, programming or logistical problems that arise.
  • Ability to attain and retain forklift licensure.
  • Ability to work independently, closely follow directions and make decisions to ensure continual production.
  • Ability and availability to work any shift and required overtime, which may include longer shifts and/or additional shifts in the workweek.
