Why Upgrade Your Floating Row Cleaner With the Air Assist Cylinder?

Answer: The Yetter Air Assist Cylinder is easy to add to your existing floating row cleaner setup, giving you the ability to make quick adjustments from your tractor seat for more effective residue management.

Yetter Farm Equipment has been developing residue management tools for farmers for over 75 years, engineering innovative solutions that can handle changing conditions and varied tillage techniques. You know us for our rigid row cleaners, floating row cleaners, and the pneumatically controlled Air Adjust™ Series. Now, there’s a new Yetter option on the table: the 2967-0001 Air Assist Cylinder.

The Air Assist is an add-on system for our family of floating row cleaners. Using air supplied through either an electric or a hydraulic compressor, it allows you to quickly and easily make adjustments from the tractor seat based on your field conditions.

How Does the Air Assist Work?

There are three main components to the Air Assist system:

  • The fully repairable, heavy-duty cylinder, with high-quality internal seals and external scrapers. The stainless steel rod in the cylinder prevents corrosion, and the scrapers protect the seals from moisture and debris. If issues arise, you can actually disassemble the cylinder and service that component.
  • The in-cab control box, which includes a tank pressure gauge, an up pressure regulator and gauge, a down pressure regulator and gauge, and a raise/lower dump valve. Up pressure and down pressure are adjusted with dials, and both can be utilized at the same time. This allows you to adjust the performance of the row cleaners and eliminates the bounce you can get when only one pressure can be adjusted at a time. The dump valve allows you to quickly raise and lower your units (for example, if you need to raise them when you reach an end row).
  • The electric or hydraulic compressor, which supplies air. You can use an existing onboard compressor or order one of three easy-to-install options from Yetter: a 2- or 12-gallon electric compressor or a 12-gallon hydraulic compressor. The connective air lines come with your kit.

The beauty of the Air Assist system is in its simplicity. There are no electronics to install or worry about. Everything is adjusted in your cab with the dials and switches on the control box.

What Are the Benefits of Using the Air Assist?

The Air Assist is a great asset for any row cleaner system, but especially if you’re planting into cornstalks and will be dealing with varying residue levels. Planting speeds are faster today, and when wheels are spinning very fast in cornstalk residue, they have a tendency to ride up. If you don’t have air cylinders installed to make adjustments, you may not get the full benefit of using floating row cleaners.

In this scenario, the Air Assist gives you the option of easily adding 10–20 pounds of downforce for more aggressive residue clearance, leading to cleaner strips to plant into.

“With residue management today, we know it’s different conditions than what we had 10 or 20 years ago,” said Yetter Territory/AOR Manager Andy Thompson. “The Air Assist Cylinder makes it easier for us to manage that residue, which is an advantage for us and our fields.”
