The
heart of the Challenger™ fertilizer
opener is a specially designed coulter blade
made from boron steel set to run at a five-degree
angle to the direction of travel. By angling
the blade, a very narrow slot is opened for
placement of the fertilizer, eliminating
the need for a knife or other opening device.
Stainless steel tubing is mounted to run
in the slot just below the soil surface,
which ensures delivery of fertilizer to the
bottom of the trench. To eliminate soil wear,
a wearplate is strategically placed on the
bottom of the tubing. This combination consistently
places fertilizer in the root zone, where
it gives plants the jumpstart they need.
An exclusive floating soil disruption guard
accompanies the angled opener blade to prevent
soil blowout as it moves through the soil.
As the blade rotates out of the soil, the
disruption guard holds the soil in place,
which is crucial in protecting the seed row
area and maintaining the planter row unit
depth control. Spring downforce on the guard
can be adjusted to meet the soil conditions,
which is especially beneficial in loose soil.
Coupled with the spring downforce, the ample
footprint provided by the soil disruption
guard assures good floatation without soil
compaction. In rocky conditions, the guard
will also fl oat, preventing damage or interference
with the planter unit depth control.
Every Challenger™ Fertilizer Opener is constructed
of high strength steel to deliver years of
dependable use. Each component is selected
to deliver consistent field performance for
the demanding speeds of seeding equipment.
Less downtime means more acres planted each
and every day.
For optimum fertilizer placement and residue
management, the Challenger™ can be fitted
with a single wheel residue manager or mounted
inside of a Titan™ residue manager.
Both residue managers feature wrenchless,
quick depth adjustment. |
