The
solid cast 15” wheels with uniquely
designed teeth are mounted to operate along
side of the seed trench. As each tooth enters
the soil, the narrow double beveled tip creates
a wedging action, which in turn lifts and
crumbles as the spike exits the soil. This
produces loose soil above the seed for optimum
seed trench closing, resulting in ideal seed-to-soil
contact. The heavy-duty, all cast Spike Closing
Wheel breaks up hard or wet soil at the surface
layer, ensuring consistent closing of the
seed trench and eliminating potential for
sidewall compaction. The soil churning action
of the exclusive tooth design facilitates
robust root development, the foundation of
superior yields.
As the wear-resistant Spike Closing Wheel
fractures the soil surface, it speeds up
warming of the row area by loosening the
soil for improved seed emergence. Each wheel
features a wide crowned depth band for superior
depth control to prevent the spikes from
intersecting the seed trench. In addition,
down pressure on the Spike Closing Wheel
can be reduced and still close the seed trench
in the most severe conditions. The finger
design of the wheel sheds damp soil to prevent
soil build-up in wet conditions. For applications
requiring additional soil crumbling or leveling,
an optional 3/8” square twisted drag
chain can be used.
The cast Spike Closing Wheel is the newest
addition to the wide range of closing wheels
offered by Yetter Manufacturing Company.
