SOLUTION FOR FERTILIZER OPENERS ON HARD TO FIT PLANTERS IS EXPANDED
WITH NEW MOUNTING
In addition to exclusive features of the Yetter T.O.W. TM Opener,
a new update makes it an even more versatile trail-behind solution
for planters with limited front mounting space and for dual application
set-ups, according to Steve Cerven, a Product Developer for Yetter.
By flipping the mounting brackets and using a longer shank to attach
the fertilizer coulter more makes and models of planters can be
fitted with a T.O.W. TM opener. It is suitable for most types
of tillage practice and is ideal for placing nutrients in the root
zone for maximum yield potential.
“The T.O.W. TM opener’s heavy-duty mounting design
wraps around the planter unit for extra support and durability,” says
Cerven. “By spreading the weight evenly on both sides,
you eliminate off-balance side loads. And the rugged mounting
plates attach to rear pivot points on both sides of the row
unit for the greater vertical and horizontal strength the additional
load requires.”
Cerven notes that the mounting platform for the injection coulter
is completed by the addition of a bolt-on cross member of structural
steel tubing, which allows users to space the injection coulter
either immediately adjacent to or up to several inches off the
row. He emphasizes that, as always, it’s a good idea to consult
with the fertilizer supplier for advice on placement that will
avoid seed disturbance and seed burn, and to visually inspect for
proper fertilizer placement.
Two types of injectors are available for the T.O.W. TM -
a spring tine assembly, which runs a small diameter tine directly
into the slot cut by the coulter blade, or a liquid injector that
injects a stream of fertilizer into the slot. Both designs use
a piston pump to maintain the correct pressure for the ground speed
and orifice size, so the precise amount of fertilizer is applied.
The T.O.W. TM’s parallel linkage keeps the injector
nozzle in place relative to the soil surface, Cerven adds, even
in heavy or rocky soils, eliminating misplaced and wasted fertilizer.
It also comes with a longlasting, heavy-duty hinge casting that
allows it to pivot and follow contours.
