Department Lead Person

Open position: Department Lead Person 


Job Summary:

Responsible for assisting the Production Supervisor in leading and coordinating production and planning, product quality, process improvements, and employee safety. Responsible for managing work within the department to achieve on-time customer delivery.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitates daily assignment of work to department employees; communicates any capacity concerns with the department supervisor.
  • Assists staff in resolution of problems, provides direct instruction and training.
  • Assists the production supervisor with monitoring availability of supplies, parts, and materials and communicates shortages to the appropriate personnel when necessary.
  • Assists at a variety of workstations during peak output. Uses a variety of tools and machines, including computer, to assemble, produce, package, load, or transport products or parts in accordance with established standards and guidelines; inspects parts for defects.
  • Promotes and enforces company policies and procedures. May coach, counsel, or discipline employees as directed and indicated.
  • Assists with the completion of performance reviews on department employees as directed and indicated.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by promoting and complying with safety procedures, rules/regulations, and guidelines.
  • Adheres to and supports 5S 1.
  • Adheres to and supports the ISO 9001:2015 standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • For safety, performance, and productivity, must be able to read, speak, and write English; must have basic math and computer skills which include Outlook, Excel, and the ability to use and learn other software as required.
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate professionally both written and verbally across all departments within the organization.
  • Ability to motivate, train, develop, and supervise personnel.
  • Ability to effectively operate department related tools and equipment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to manage time effectively, meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to follow directions, written and verbal, and to make decisions and follow through.
  • Ability to read blue prints and other written instructions.
  • Ability to qualify for and retain a fork lift license.
  • Ability and availability to work any shift.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Physically active position requiring consistent lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires pushing and pulling up to 75lbs; requires exerting force.
  • Require being able to stand and walk for long periods of time; 98% of the shift, including overtime, requires standing and/or walking.
  • To perform the duties of this job the employee is required to stand, walk, stoop, squat, reach to, below or above shoulder level/overhead, lift carry, push, pull, and use hands and/or fingers to handle, grasp, manipulate, grip and use tools.
  • Essential duties and responsibilities are typically performed while standing or while intermittently sitting, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching or stooping; requires reaching, pushing, pulling, and grasping. Repetitive motions may be applicable to certain products.
  • Visual acuity and hand/eye coordination. Requires ability to see, talk and hear
  • Regular exposure to seasonal temperature changes in the work environment.
  • Regular exposure to noise and vibration from pneumatic tools, moving machines, fumes, and occasionally airborne dust and particles.
  • Requires steel/composite safety footwear and safety eye protection at all times. Required hearing protection in specified areas.
