Proven over thousands of acres

Categories: 71 Series Planter

John Reidhar and his sons run a 10,000-acre farming operation, and he also builds planters for use in small-scale farming and for food plots. He has found no substitute for the adaptability and effectiveness of the Yetter 71 Series Planter Units.

"We use the Yetter 71 Series Planter Units to plant approximately 300 acres of food plots on the land we own and the ground we lease to others. The singulation of the seeds—accurate seed placement—cannot be beaten by any other brand’s plate-type planter on the market. Over the last half-century, the Yetter units have been proven over thousands of acres on many types of agricultural operations to be the best and toughest plate-type planters being sold today.

"These planters do an excellent job in conventional planting, and they also do extremely well in no-till situations with the optional 2999 Frame-Mount Coulters."

Yetter Strip Freshener makes spring strip-till a lot less stressful

Categories: Strip Till

"Spring strip-till has proven challenging for us in the past. We want to create an ideal seedbed just hours ahead of planting with no previous tillage.  Since we face the challenges of wet soil and increasing amounts of residue, we wanted a unit that was less restrictive of residue flow, lighter weight, and better suited for tilling at shallow depths.

"Now, with the Yetter Strip Freshener, spring strip-till is a lot less stressful. The ease of operation through our different soils, residue levels, and soil moisture is incredible.  The seedbed we create is ideal to plant into and we are very pleased with the even crop emergence."

The Devastator has improved planting conditions for our no-till beans and strip-till corn-on-corn

Categories: Stalk Roller

"The Yetter 5000 Stalk Devastator™ we have on our Drago corn head not only saves the tires on our equipment, it provides better residue breakdown. The Devastator performs better than our old stalk stompers at getting the stalks cracked and in touch with the ground. It has improved planting conditions for our no-till beans and strip-till corn-on-corn.

"The Devastator has also proven very durable compared to our previous stalk stompers. And the rollers were easy to install—it took two people just a couple hours to complete."

"I've had great success with my Yetter Coulter cart, on which I mount 2995 series dry fertilizer coulters in front of my 12-tow semi-mounted planter. I mounted an air delivery system so I can auger fertilizer into one hopper rather than four boxes. I really like the convenience of one hopper, plus I get fertilizer placed off to the side of the row. The system is working well for me."

Speed, performance, and versatility of the Strip Freshener has exceeded expectations

Categories: Strip Till

"We wanted to switch to strip-till, but we were concerned about how well it would work on our 20" rows, especially for our corn-on-corn acres. The Yetter team helped us understand and create a complete strip-till system. We custom-built a strip-till toolbar using Yetter 2984 Strip Freshener CC row units—it saved us money and fit our operation.

"Our 325 horsepower tractor and 24-row strip-till bar have allowed us to drastically reduce our time, labor, and costs of putting in the crop, while achieving better fertilizer placement and making a better seedbed than we did with our previous system.

"The versatility of the 2984 Strip Freshener CC allows us to run whenever it works, and the in-cab adjustment allows us to keep rolling while maintaining high performance. The speed, performance, and versatility of the 2984 Strip Freshener CC has exceeded our expectations."

No More Tire Damage

Categories: Stalk Roller

“I first started using Yetter Stalk Devastators in 2017 on a John Deere 8-row corn head. Using them, we have been able to no-till into cornstalks and have no more tire damage from Bt variety stalks. The Devastators work so well that I will not go to shell corn without them.”

Pleased with the cart for their 3,200 acres of corn and soybean

Categories:

Bruce and Jerry Bergman have used the Yetter 2000-gallon All Steer High-Capacity Cart on their family farm for the past two years. The first spring, they used it behind a 24-row strip-till toolbar; the second spring, they used it behind a 24-row planter. They are pleased with the cart for their 3,200 acres of corn and soybeans. "The four-wheel steer follows the same track as the tractor and works better on the end rows," said Bruce. "And the large wheels and tires reduce compaction. It's also built very well." The Bergmans also appreciate Yetter service. Bruce said, "We use Yetter products in some unconventional ways, and when we have any questions about the products, Yetter has listened and been very helpful."

Impressed with these units' durability

"I am really pleased with these row cleaners, and so were the guys who put them on our 1250 Case IH planter," Chris said of his 2967 Screw Adjust Residue Managers from Yetter.

"Previous row cleaners fell apart, and we had to re-tool the holes to put them on. It took days. The Yetter row cleaners bolted right up—it only took us half a day to hook them up!

"I am impressed with these units' durability—there is no comparison between these and my old units. I am more than happy. I will definitely consider other Yetter products in the future."

Better stalk stance with Screw Adjust Residue Managers

Categories: Residue Managers

Doug Gronau experienced high winds that flattened parts of his corn to the ground. Because of the damage, he was not able to harvest the flattened stalks; therefore, come planting season, Gronau planted directly into the mangled stalks without any tillage. Gronau was impressed with his Yetter 2967-063 Short Screw Adjust Floating Row Cleaners' performance. The residue managers allowed him to plant evenly, regardless of the residue conditions. In addition to the even seed placement in tough conditions, by adding Yetter residue managers to all 15" rows in his planter, Gronau lowered his seeding rates for soybeans and achieved better stalk stance than before.

Our goal is to get seed in a precise location

Categories: Residue Managers

Gary Kunde searched for the best residue manager to handle several thousand acres of beans and narrow-row corn, including some continuous corn. He found it in Yetter Manufacturing's Narrow Row Residue Managers with optional SharkTooth® wheels. "Twenty-inch rows mean we achieve more plants per acre, but it also means we have more residue to plant into," said Gary. "The Yetter SharkTooth wheels caught my eye because they self-clean as well as move residue.

"Our goal is to get seed in a precise location," Gary continued. "The Yetter residue managers work the way we want them to and do not interfere with planter performance." Although Gary had to make modifications to accommodate his Great Plains 24-row planter, he still has adequate adjustment. Yetter engineers have been in contact with Gary to learn from his modifications and have added a new feature from Gary's wish list—flotation ability—to the newest Narrow Row models.

Residue managers create a better stand of corn

Categories: Residue Managers

Jerry Groth is always looking for ways to get a better stand of corn on his mostly no-till farm, which is why he decided to test out the Yetter 2967-035 Residue Manager for No-Till Coulters with SharkTooth® wheels in a side-by-side comparison.

On a 1,000-foot plot with four rows, he planted two rows using the residue managers and two using no-till coulters without the residue managers. His final stand was roughly 34,000 plants in rows with residue managers and 29,000 and 31,000 plants in the rows without. This equaled a 12-bushel-per-acre difference in yield.

"I also found more consistency in growth and more even ear size in the rows using residue managers," said Jerry. "I’ve purchased residue managers to use on all my planters."

Stalk Devastator leaves fields in impressive condition

Categories: Stalk Roller

Jim Ries used a chopping corn head for several years and was not impressed with the performance. Jim found that the chopping corn head required high maintenance and in-season costs, which led to downtime for repairs.

For the fall of 2014, Jim purchased the Yetter 5000 Stalk Devastator™ for his John Deere 612 12-row 30" conventional corn head. Impressed by the condition of the field after harvest and that the stalks did not blow around like they did when he used the chopping corn head, Jim is pleased with the Yetter setup compared to his previous setup.

My Yetter residue managers cleared the path to higher yields

Categories: Closing Wheels | Residue Managers

"My Yetter 2967 Screw Adjust Residue Managers cleared the path to higher yields in my soybeans. I added them to my 1790 John Deere planter with 15-inch spacing. My no-till soybean yields were an award-winning 89.77—the fourth highest in the country in all categories. Clearing the big pieces of residue out of the path of the planter has led to more consistent seed depth, which means more uniform stands. I operate them in very high residue conditions, and the SharkTooth® wheel has not had any issues with plugging. The Screw Adjust feature is operator friendly; I can achieve my desired settings very quickly with a turn of the knob.

"I also use the 6200 Cast Spike Closing Wheels. They are really effective at crumbling the soil over the seed and eliminating sidewall compaction. They complement the job the Screw Adjusts do in creating the ideal seedbed. Yetter attachments are durable and well made, and they have really earned their keep in my operation."

The strips were still visible in the spring

Categories: Strip Till

For four years, Brent Schmitz tried to make strip-till work with little success. "We'd run the strips in the fall, but then in the spring, we could never see where we'd been."

Looking for a strip-till tool with a residue manager, Brent tried the Yetter 2984 Maverick™ HR Plus® with SharkTooth® wheels in the fall to strip-till in his bean stubble. He also applied anhydrous with the units. "The strips were still visible in the spring."

A test area proved the value of the Mavericks. "We didn't use the Mavericks on 12 rows—we got dramatically better emergence in the rest of the field than in these 12 rows that were straight no-till."

Key to the Mavericks' success, said Brent, is their "ability to seal in the nitrogen," which he attributes to the fact that there are so many adjustment options for the closers. "The depth, angle, pitch, and distance from the row are all adjustable. In a challenging year, those benefits are very important. The fall was wet, and the soil varied from field to field, but our strips were always well sealed—other farmers and custom applicators were having trouble."

Better seedbed with Stalk Devastator

Categories: Stalk Roller

Like many farmers, Dave Hunt has been plagued with stubble damage to his tires. He has faced this challenge with a new tool at his side—the Yetter 5000 Stalk Devastator™.

With the Devastator mounted on his eight-row corn head, Dave rolled and crushed 1,500 acres of strip-till cornstalks. "We felt like it was a good improvement over the traditional stalk stompers," said Dave. "It prepared a better seedbed for our strip-till corn-on-corn. It left the field looking very good."

He also felt it effectively preserved the residue cover: "We didn’t have any problems with stalks blowing, and we heard that can be a problem with some competitive products. It is a very well-made product."

After years of having to get out of the cab to make adjustments, Grant Curtis decided he wanted the ability to adjust his residue managers from the tractor seat quickly and easily. Grant chose the Yetter 2940 Air Adjust™ Residue Manager for his operation. His residue managers are mounted on his John Deere planter, and he is impressed with the results he has experienced with the Air Adjust.

Grant has used the Air Adjust Residue Managers for two seasons and appreciates the time-saving features it has to offer. Saving time with Yetter 2940 Air Adjust Series

Categories: Residue Managers

"The nice thing about the 2940 Air Adjust™ Residue Managers is you can change them on the fly—when you come across a waterway or headland, just hit a button and they come up," said Justin Martz, who farms corn and soybeans on Larson Farms.

This year, Justin ran two planters: a John Deere 35-row with the Air Adjust Residue Managers and another with a different product. "The others take a fair amount of time to change," said Justin. "We are constantly adjusting our residue managers as we go through the field, because making little changes can affect the whole year’s crop. Getting out three or four times, it gets old. We have a limited window of time to plant, so the time saving is great. With the Air Adjusts, I just hit a button and they go to the preset I’ve saved."

It did a really nice job of laying the stalks over, crushing them, and starting the decay process

Categories: Stalk Roller

For harvest, Mike France used the 5000 Stalk Devastator™ attached to his corn head to knock over and crush corn stalks, testing its effectiveness for Yetter. "When Yetter came at the end of the harvest to take it off, I told them I wanted it back!" said Mike.

For his 2,200 acres of strip-till corn, Mike had previously used stalk stompers on his corn head to save the rear tires on his combine, but they only knocked down some of the rows, leaving others to damage his tires. The Stalk Devastator, however, knocked down all the rows. "It did a really nice job of laying the stalks over, crushing them, and starting the decay process,” explained Mike. “I saw the difference in the field in the spring." And while in the course of the previous year he ruined a set of tires on his tractor, this year he saw no more than normal wear.

He also says that the Stalk Devastator fit easily into his harvest schedule. "Running the Stalk Devastator caused no delays or inconvenience at all."

Devastator is the answer to tough corn stalks

Categories: Stalk Roller

"It’s the best purchase we made this year," said Matt Blankenship of Pioneer Seed & Blankenship Farms, referring to the Yetter 5000 Stalk Devastator™. "Today’s corn stalks are so much tougher, but the Devastator was the answer I was looking for to plant into corn stalks."

Matt had previous experience with several types of stalk stompers on his approximately 2,200 acres of corn, but this equipment never lasted more than one season before issues or problems arouse. "I was on the market for something better," he said. When he first contacted Yetter, they didn’t have a Devastator that would fit his Geringhoff folding 12-row corn head, but Matt’s sales representative worked with him to help figure out a solution.

Matt also appreciates that the Devastator saves him money. "Tractor tires are so expensive. A couple years ago, I no-tilled soybeans into standing corn stalks and ruined a set of tires. With the Devastator, stubble damage on my tires is non-existent. The stalks are so bent over so there’s no way they could hurt the tires. The Devastator has worked so well it’s hard to believe anything could be better."

Yetter now offers Devastator models for 6-, 8-, and 12-row Geringhoff, Drago, Claas/Lexion, and AGCO/Gleaner/Challenger/Massey-Ferguson.

Made a world of difference

Categories: Residue Managers

Adding SharkTooth® wheels to his residue manager made a world of difference to Paul Butler.

Paul's fields, which he plants half in beans and half in corn, grew too weedy over the winter to run straight wheels through each spring. "The weeds would just wrap around other wheels, and I had to stop every couple hours to clean them out," Paul said. That changed when Paul added the SharkTooth wheels. He liked the heavy-duty construction of the Yetter units and also was attracted to its competitive pricing.

Now, he can run his residue manager quickly to prepare the 400 acres in his no-till operation. "After I put on the SharkTooth wheels, I didn't stop once. They saved me a significant amount of time."

Worked extremely well

Categories: Residue Managers

"The residue managers from Yetter Manufacturing worked extremely well. I had gone through the field with a chisel plow and went back to break up clods and heavy trash using the SharkTooth® wheels. No matter how heavy the trash got, there was no balling up behind the wheels. I know these products saved my neighbor a pass with the chisel plow and possibly two additional passes through the field, and I will save money because I will save a pass in the spring. I am always very satisfied with any equipment I get from Yetter."

Used the same Yetter adjustable residue managers for 10 years

Categories: Residue Managers

Steve Fulling has used the same Yetter adjustable residue managers for 12 years. Even though Steve does not farm a lot of acres and plants into tool-friendly clay soil, he has been impressed with their longevity. "They've been trouble-free," he said. "I didn't even have them apart until last year when I replaced the spiders and bearings."

Steve's residue managers are attached to a six-row John Deere 7000 series planter-an older model that still works well. He began the search for row-cleaners to add to his unit, and finding a tool that worked with his planter was important. After researching a competitor's option and finding they required the removal of his coulters, Steve heard about SharkTooth® wheels from a Yetter representative. "The SharkTooth wheels were a good fit," said Steve.

Steve no-tills and has planted into just about everything—corn-on-corn, corn-on-beans, beans-on-corn, and beans-on-wheat—with his Yetter residue managers. His SharkTooth wheels have performed well in corn-on-corn and corn-on-beans.

"I was never disappointed," Steve said. "I have always been pleased with the quality products Yetter puts out. You may pay a little more in the beginning, but the heavy-duty construction means you aren't welding when you should be planting," Steve commented.

Devastator clears the way for spring planting

Categories: Stalk Roller

David Dimmich and his son, Zachary, purchased a Yetter 5000 Stalk Devastator™ for use during fall harvest on their farm in Indiana, about 100 miles south of Chicago. They plant no-till soybeans after corn and had frequently experienced problems with tire damage from standing stalks after harvest. The stalks also make it difficult to plant no-till soybeans the following spring.

"We didn’t want to buy equipment that would chop up the stalks and allow them to blow during winter and wash into low areas," said David. "We wanted something to condition the fields, but not cut or tear out the stalks. In that regard, we were elated with the Devastator’s performance."

David reports that the Stalk Devastator took very little time to prepare for transport. They made a few minor adjustments to mount it on their John Deere 1293 corn head, but now the Stalk Devastator fits very well.

David and Zachary received many comments from other farmers in the surrounding area who liked what they saw. "We’ll need to wait for the spring planting to say for sure, but the stalks were rolled down tightly without being dislodged, which we hope will make for less tire damage and easier planting next spring."

Devastators save tire wear on my primary tillage tractors

Categories: Stalk Roller

Next year, Mike Cline will be running Yetter 5000 Stalk Devastators™ on all three of his John Deere S680 12-row combines. They’ll cover 6,500 corn-on-corn acres, successfully knocking down stubble and preventing tire damage. "We really started seeing problems with premature tire damage—after only a year or two, our primary tillage tractors needed new tires," Mike said. "The stalks are stiffer today, and we are combining a little early so the corn is greener.

"My Case IH dealer recommended the Devastators to me last year. We used them on two combines and they worked really great. The stalks lay down nicely; I got out and checked, and they were broken in a few places, so they stayed down. That helped with breakdown—the residue flowed easier when we made our tillage pass with the disc ripper, and we also had more breakdown over the winter.

"The Devastators installed really easily—after the first roller was on, we got both combines done in less than an hour and a half. I was worried they would be hard to get on the header carts, but that was easy, too—much better than other ski-style rollers I have tried."

Air Adjust saves time, improves planting effectiveness

Categories: Residue Managers

"The Air Adjust™ units probably saved me a good three hours between my two 16-row Case IH planters in that initial field," said Drew Barnes, who used 2940 Air Adjust Residue Managers from Yetter for the first time this spring. "You could spend an hour and a half on manual adjustments, get into the field, find out you were not right, and have to get out and start again.

"I have different residue conditions in the same field—some soybean, some corn—and it’s a whole different world. Those presets really made the Air Adjust units shine. All I had to do was remember to push a button and my up and down pressure adjusted to handle the residue I was transitioning into. There is no way I would have been able to adjust manually every pass with the time pressure we face at planting. Having the Air Adjust units has made my planting more effective—they really saved my bacon, so to speak."

Drew has also found that having the Air Adjust Compressor Tank mounted on his planter makes it possible to carry other air-powered tools with him. "I can fill up my planter tires in the field, and I carry a blower that cleans my seed meters and tubes. It’s a lot more convenient than heading back to the truck."

Encounters just about every type of soil, from heavy clay to loam to sand

Categories:

In central Michigan's rolling hills, Lee Thelen encounters just about every type of soil, from heavy clay to loam to sand. He needed a fertilizer application tool that could stay in the ground in changing conditions. He found it in the 3000 Viper® II from Yetter Farm Equipment.

"The situation changes fast as you go across the field," said Lee. "I switched to the Vipers from the Yetter 2995 Fertilizer Coulters for the down pressure springs. The Vipers keep the fertilizer in the ground all the time."

Keeping his fertilizer where he wants it is even more important in today's economic condition, said Lee. "Getting the fertilizer in the ground and getting it covered means I get to keep it! With the price of fertilizer today, that means a lot."

Lee has 32 3000 Viper II units on a 40-foot, 16-year-old toolbar. One set is mounted to apply fertilizer 2 inches off the row, the other at 15 inches to hit mid-row for his corn crop.

"These units are built well with enough iron that they're durable. They do the job well all the time."

I have been very happy with the Double Discs

Categories: Fertilizer Application

Rich Maurer uses Yetter 2962 Unit-Mounted Double Disc Fertilizer Openers to apply liquid fertilizer when he plants 2,700 acres of corn and sugar beets in Michigan. Rich’s 24 Double Disc Openers are row-unit mounted, and he plants his beets in 30-inch rows.

"We’d talked to other farmers, and we knew a single-disc opener was not the best options for applying fertilizer—it would limit our depth. The double disc is better for trashy conditions," said Rich. "It cuts right through our wheat and corn residue, and I get the fertilizer two inches to the side and two inches below the seed."

Rich has used the units for two years and found them to be durable, showing only normal wear. "I have been very happy with the Double Discs."

Durable product, and I wanted the SharkTooth

Categories: Residue Managers

Kevin Keopp is one of a growing number of producers switching to twin-row corn. "Kinze just started building twin-row planters," said Kevin. "Not too long ago, machines for twin rows had to be custom built."

Kevin did customize his Kinze 3600 16/32 planter to handle minimum tillage in a twin-row system using Yetter SharkTooth® residue managers. First, a set of double-wheel residue managers slices through and moves stalks to the left and right. Next, a single-wheel SharkTooth residue manager cleans the space 7.5 inches to the left, clearing the path for the twin row of seeds to be planted.

"I chose Yetter because they had durable product, and I wanted the SharkTooth," said Kevin. "They cut right through the trash—that's the most exciting part. I can see it slicing straight through at about five miles an hour." Kevin is also pleased with the SharkTooth residue manager's lack of soil disruption. "I don't run coulters because they pull up too much damp soil. In Minnesota, we're on the damper side anyway, but the SharkTooth leaves us with dry soil to work with and gets me in the field as early as possible."

We were looking for a setup that could work in both tillage systems.

Categories: Closing Wheels

Kevin Antrim of Antrim Farms has experimented with many combinations of closing wheels, including OEM rubber wheels and add-ons from several manufacturers.

"Some seemed to just throw out more dirt than anything. Our operation is about one-third no-till and two-thirds conventional till," said Kevin. "We were looking for a setup that could work in both tillage systems." Antrim Farms found the solution in Yetter Manufacturing's 6200 Cast Spike Closing Wheels.

Kevin now plants with a combination of OEM rubber wheels alternating with Yetter Spike Wheels. "We could not move back and forth between no-till and conventional tillage with the other units we tried. I believe they work so well because Yetter maintained the wheel portion of the unit," said Kevin. "Our no-till emergence has improved since we started using Yetter wheels."

Paul Hamann has found that it pays to be creative when planting strip-till corn-on-corn. By constructing his own strip-till bar and fertilizer cart with his son and brother, he estimates he saved several thousand dollars.

By redesigning and shortening a used ridge-till cultivator bar, Paul was able to reduce the tool in weight and length for use on his small farm. He outfitted the bar with Yetter 2984 Maverick™ HR Plus® units, and then mounted the bar on a caddy he found in Nebraska. To complete the setup, he obtained a 12,000-pound Montag fertilizer cart, built a frame, and attached that to the caddy as well.

"We were worried that we would have to make modifications, but 1,000 acres later, it’s proven it actually works," said Paul.

Like many in southeastern Minnesota, Paul’s cattle graze in his corn stalks in the fall, so he does spring strip-tilling. The Mavericks help him get the job done in time. He also used the tool on soybeans, and even in his neighbors’ alfalfa field, building a berm and putting down fertilizer.

"It’s a very good tool, and strip-till is a real asset in dry years," said Paul. "Residue and placement of the fertilizer is extremely crucial. We deposit fertilizer in the berm below the root zone, which enhances the roots and provides stimulus for the roots to go down to find the fertilizer and moisture. I’ve been able to see the difference between strip-tilled and non-strip-tilled fields."

The reliability of this unit has been exceptional

Categories:

Minnesota farmer Rick Loll and his sons have used the 1300 Seed Jet II™ from Yetter Farm Equipment for about ten years. "I think we’ve only changed one belt—and added gas," said Rick. "The reliability of this unit has been exceptional."

So exceptional that when operational needs—such as the desire to plant some Roundup Ready and some conventional soybeans—dictated the addition of another bulk seed system, Rick didn’t hesitate to turn to Yetter. The new Seed Jet II unit features a 13-horsepower engine. "It works just as well—if not better than—the first unit."

Both Rick’s Seed Jets are mounted on single-axle grain trucks, a unique setup that Rick said "was by far more economical than other options. They are there to stay. I don’t think my sons will even wear them out in their lifetimes!"

Rick also praises the simplicity of the Seed Jet II system.

Looked around for years

Categories: Fertilizer Application

"I looked around for years for something like these fertilizer openers so that I could apply fertilizer without wrecking the seed trench," said Rob Goblirsch. After he put Yetter Farm Equipment's 2968 Row-Unit Mount In-Between Fertilizer Openers on his 1770 John Deere 16-row planter, he knew he had found what he was looking for.

Rob uses the fertilizer openers while applying nitrogen, as well as other fertilizers, to his 600 acres of corn. "These give me more flexibility to put down what I need without worrying about the mud or wrecking the furrow," Rob said. "I apply fertilizer two inches off the row, and it works great. I also like that it is a compact system."

Saw great results this year

Categories: Residue Managers

Vance Johnson saw great results this year with the Yetter 2967 residue managers and optional SharkTooth® wheels. The combination attachment worked with his planter and powered through tough corn residue so he could plant 360 acres of sugar beets and 330 acres of soybeans. "I absolutely love them," said Vance. "The teeth slice the stalks and keep rolling. They don't push root balls in front of the planter, and I don't have to stop moving to unplug the residue from the teeth."

Originally, Vance attached his Yetter 2967 residue managers and SharkTooth wheels to a 12-row planter. When he upgraded to a 24-row unit, he did not want to leave his Yetter tools behind. Vance replaced half the managers that came on the new planter with his Yetter combination. "I had nothing but trouble with the new planter's original residue managers, but the SharkTooth wheels worked perfectly," said Vance. "I plan on ordering 12 more this winter so I can upgrade my entire planter."

Vance originally picked Yetter products because he knew the company was associated with residue management and had a good reputation. He did not test the product beforehand, but took a "gamble" because he liked the backwards-angled tooth design. "I didn't think they would clog like spoke-wheel designs," Vance said.

Vance also said his gamble paid off: "I'm going to get my money's worth out of these!"

Paddle Wheels combat sidewall compaction, manage soil erosion

Categories: Closing Wheels | Residue Managers

Mitchell Corbin runs Yetter 6200 Paddle Closing Wheels™ on his 36-row, 20" John Deere planter, and he’s gotten some comments on them. "They don’t look like anything else I’ve had." When his dealer suggested he try them out to help with sidewall compaction, Mitchell agreed because he has been a fan of Yetter products since he started using the 2967 residue managers with SharkTooth® Wheels four years ago in his all no-till operation.

"Our soils are heavy clay, so sidewall compaction is a concern. The Paddle Wheels don’t move too much dirt and are not too aggressive. They do a job better than the cast iron wheels I have on my other rows."  Because Mitchell did not add Paddle Wheels to his entire planter, it was easy to do a good side-by-side comparison.

Mitchell has also found them to be a better fit for his rolling hills. "We farm all contours here—a 9-14% slope. The Paddle Wheels are more forgiving on the corners and do a better job closing the slot on the curves. The Paddle Wheel rows are just smoother."

In addition, the Paddle Wheels do a better job of preventing soil erosion. "I’ll go out after a hard rain and check the wash—the Paddle Wheel rows have 30-40% less wash than the others."

Of his tried-and-true Yetter residue managers, Mitchell said, "The SharkTooth wheels do an excellent job. I will add them again when I order a new planter."

A powerful tool for dealing with the trash left behind after a crop

Categories: Residue Managers

Brandon Wilson knows cotton. He helps farm over 12,000 acres of it for AMD Farms. He also knows that Yetter SharkTooth® wheels coupled with 2967 residue managers are a powerful tool for dealing with the trash left behind after a crop. He appreciates the tools' heavy frames. "We run six John Deere 1720 12-row planters. They each handle about 2,000 acres a season, and the Yetter units run the entire time without any problems," said Brandon.

Brandon credits the SharkTooth wheels with enabling no-tillage in AMD's operation. "It's so much simpler, and we don't have the costs associated with conventional tillage. Their impact has been 100%—I would not be able to plant the way I do without them."

Do a great job closing the furrow

Categories: Closing Wheels

"Our soil is Fargo clay," said Kevin Onchuck, who farms with his brother, Dan. "It's real sticky. We used to be able to walk behind our planter, look down at the furrow, and see the seed. Rubber closing wheels were not closing the furrow at all.

"We added a Yetter 6200 Cast Spike Closing Wheel on one side of each row unit on our White 8500 planter. They do a great job closing the furrow. Our germination has really improved."

Kevin has used the Cast Spike Closing Wheels for two years on 1,800 acres of corn and, when the weather cooperates, wheat. Due to the wet soil conditions, he sticks to conventional tillage practices. "The Cast Spike Closing Wheels are a good option to reduce sidewall compaction. They've been very durable. We're thinking of adding them to both sides of the row unit."

Residue managers move trash

Categories: Fertilizer Application | Residue Managers

Difficult wheat residue was the reason Robert Schaefer decided to try the 2967-039 Residue Manager for Fertilizer Toolbars on his planter and strip-till unit. After three or four years of use, Robert is very happy with the setup. "It just moves trash out of the way for the planter to come through," he said.

Though the tools work especially well in wheat stubble, Robert said they also work in corn and bean residue.

Developed over 200 wildlife-habitat planters made from Yetter products

Categories: 71 Series Planter

Brent Jungman of Jungman Wildlife Supply has developed over 200 wildlife-habitat planters made from Yetter products. Using the 71 Planter Unit with the 2967 Screw Adjust Residue Managers mounted on the front of the planter, Jungman has created a unique design. "It took a little trial and error," Brent said, "but the new, flexible unit works well for wildlife food-plot planting.

"For three years, we’ve built them and shipped them around the country. We went with Yetter products originally because the company has been around for a while and has a reputation for developing a quality product," said Brent.

"We’ve had a lot of luck with the units we’ve built using Yetter products—all our customers who have bought the planter have loved it."

We don't lose nitrogen through nitrification

Categories: Fertilizer Application

"We concluded that for our no-till operation, we needed to get fertilizer deeper into the ground. Because the Yetter injection system places the fertilizer in the ground, we don't lose nitrogen through nitrification or because it sits on the top of the residue. They've provided a big cost benefit because they've lowered our nitrogen needs per bushel. Yetter coulters are also are a pretty fuel-efficient option.

"I like Yetter products because they are well-researched and the designs advance with the times. Yetter sales reps are great—always willing to help me execute new ideas."

"As a Yetter dealer, I maintain a close relationship with the Yetter team to stay up to date on the newest products and to discuss industry news. But when I need information quickly and a phone call is not an option, I turn to the Yetter website. The restructuring of the product information section of the Yetter website has made it a powerful tool. I can search for products by name or by category. Each product now displays on its own page and lists key specifications, and navigation between products is simplified. When I want additional information about the newest Yetter products, I can access the press release about that product online. I also find the information in the online publication The Leading Edge to be helpful because it provides accurate information about trends in agriculture.

"I feel good about referring my customers to the Yetter website because they can find manuals for their Yetter tools there as well. They can also check out diagrams with helpful how-to tips that illustrate how Yetter products tackle today's production agriculture challenges."

It sealed very well, even though it had been a dry year

Categories: Fertilizer Application

When Lynn Lisius switched from a knife system to the Yetter Magnum Opener for anhydrous application, he saw immediate improvements. "It sealed very well, even though it had been a dry year," he said.

He also noticed that the Magnum pulled more easily. "It required less horsepower, and I could travel faster."

Lynn selected the Yetter Magnum after a neighbor who had purchased one the previous year recommended it. He plans to use it again in the spring for pre-plant anhydrous application.

I wanted a custom-built, small planter

Categories: 71 Series Planter

As a first-year farmer with a small acreage, Mike Sottile turned to Yetter Manufacturing for the company's 71 Series Planter Units. "I went to my local equipment dealer looking for a reasonable planting setup. I wanted a custom-built, small planter. The Yetter planter units were not too large, and they were a good fit for my narrow soybean rows." This year, Mike narrowed his rows further to 15-inch spacing and increased the number on units on his planter to 11.

"I also have a single unit on a small frame that we pull with a four-wheeler," said Mike. "It's perfect for tight spots or patching and repair without running the tractor down the row. The seed placement with the Yetter planter units has been very good. So has the emergence. Once I understood how to operate them, I had very little trouble with them—especially for a first-time farmer!"

The Vipers are heavier than the others

Categories:

Jim Rogers swapped his fertilizer coulters for Yetter Farm Equipment’s 3000 Viper® II With Gauge Wheels because they looked more heavy-duty than a leading competitor’s best model, and he was looking for more accurate fertilizer placement. "The Vipers are heavier than the others we considered, and we like that."

Jim’s Vipers are mounted to a 16-row Kinze planter, and he applies about 35 gallons of liquid fertilizer an acre to his corn crop. The Vipers place his fertilizer six inches off the row, just where he wants it. "The placement is something we are very happy with—a definite improvement over our old system.

"We also have better depth control. We use a John Blue pump, and with the Vipers, we have better flow. The tubes are more protected—they don’t seem to pick up the rock damage we used to see."  Jim attributes this to the spring-loaded feature of the Vipers.

Great job of lifting and redistributing the residue

The Screw Adjust is a pretty nice feature

Categories: Residue Managers

Mike Marquardt purchased Yetter 2967 residue managers with the Screw Adjust feature, setback kits, and SharkTooth® wheels for his John Deere 1750 6-row planter. The setback kits made it possible for Mike to continue using his frame-mounted coulters. "Without the kit, my coulters would have been too close to my row cleaners.

"The screw adjust is a pretty nice feature," continued Mike. "All you have to do is get your socket out and fit it."

Mike's Yetter SharkTooth wheels also contributed to improved planting. "They make a nice, clear path." The combination of new Yetter equipment has Mike anticipating solid yields in spite of an unusually dry growing season. "I had a better stand this year, and I will definitely keep using the tools."

Heavy enough to move the residue out of the way without moving any soil

A floating residue manager for this planter is an absolute must

Categories: Residue Managers

When Don Norwood told Yetter he needed a floating residue manager for his highly erodible no-till farm in the Tennessee hills, Yetter listened.

The previous year, Don had purchased a used eight-row Monosem twin planter with fixed Yetter residue managers. As they crossed the bean stubble and grass residue while Don planted 600 acres of corn, the residue managers sometimes cut into the soil and sometimes raised the planter. The result: His corn emerged in uneven stands.

Don told Monosem and Yetter, "If you want these products to work in the hills of Tennessee, a floating residue manager for this planter is an absolute must." Don says that the farmers on the Tennessee slopes were some of the first to adopt no-till farming practices. His 3,000-acre farm has been no-till since the early 1970s.

Just three months after his request, Yetter had test units ready for him: the 2967 Narrow-Row Residue Managers for Twin-Row Planters. He used them, with visibly improved results in germination. "When I walked the fields, I saw a more consistent stand of corn."

Don says he’s "very pleased" with both the product and the customer service. And now those floating 2967 residue managers are in production for other farmers as well.

Immediately ordered seven more

Categories: Fertilizer Application

After he saw a Yetter Farm Equipment magazine ad, Sixtus Laskowski ordered one Yetter 2968 Row-Unit Mount In-Between Fertilizer Opener for his thousand-acre farm near Stockdale, Texas. He mounted it on his 7300 John Deere planter, tested it, and immediately ordered seven more.

He used the opener for his spring planting of corn, grain sorghum, and cotton. Sixtus says the fertilizer openers work well across his range of soils, from black loam to pure sand. He describes his tillage method as "minimum conventional tillage."

He places the fertilizer two inches below and two inches to the side of his cotton rows. "It’s far enough away so that it doesn’t affect germination, but available when the cotton starts setting roots," he said.

To protect the equipment from corrosion after exposure to fertilizer, he flushes it thoroughly with water and applies a coat of oil.

Stand behind their investment

Categories: Fertilizer Application

William and Robb Hinton stand behind their investment in the Yetter 3600 toolbar. The Hintons are a father-and-son team farming in Virginia's Northern Neck. This location is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed and is very sensitive to environmental pollutants. "We feel very strongly about protecting this natural resource and use continuous no-till in our farming operation to help control runoff," said Robb. "The concept of injecting our nitrogen makes sense to us. It is not only environmentally responsible, but also profitable."

The Hintons are using no-till to build soil structure. This, in turn, adds organic matter and the possibility that they may be able to reduce their fertilizer requirements. Because of the build-up of residue that comes with no-till, the Hintons needed a better way to get the nitrogen they use to side-dress their corn directly to the root zone instead of on top of the ground, where it can be tied up in residue, evaporate in the heat, or run off with a heavy rain.

They turned to Yetter Farm Equipment for a solution. "The Yetter 3600 Fertilizer Toolbar meets all of our needs. We have been using it for two years and have seen a six bushel-per-acre increase in our yields, and we are working with our local extension office to statistically prove our results over different growing conditions," said Robb.

"This is a well-built piece of equipment that hooks up easily, transports safely, and has performed flawlessly in our side-dress operation," Robb added.

The Hintons were able to attach the 3600 toolbar to their 4730 John Deere sprayer with Swath Pro—they work perfectly together to reduce overlap and costs. Robb adds that the quick hitch is a must to attach the toolbar to the sprayer.

Ready for use when needed

Categories: Fertilizer Application

When the need arises for a particular tool, Allan Brooks likes to know he has it available in his toolbox. That's the way he feels about his Yetter 2910 Heavy-Duty Coulters. The coulters, mounted on a 16-foot toolbar, are ready for use when needed. He knows he can rely on the heavy-duty coulters when he needs to cut through especially tough residue.

"We needed a tool to target aggressive residue situations," Allan said. "We're using no-till techniques, so we want to retain the residue, and yet we still had the need to attack and size it.

"We knew from our past experience operating Yetter coulters for years that we wanted to go with another Yetter coulter for these situations."

Allan has about 2,000 acres on which he raises sweet corn, snap beans, soybeans, processing peas, and barley as a cover crop. Some of the vegetables are double crops, so Allan works roughly 2,300 to 2,400 acres each year.

Allan's workhorses are Yetter 2995 Series coulters mounted on his John Deere planter, which he uses while applying liquid fertilizer. His especially likes the springs on the Yetter coulters, which can help transfer the weight of the toolbar to the coulter.

"This will be the sixth year with that particular machine," Allan said. "We had a previous planter with Yetter coulters that we traded in. When we bought our new machine, we knew we wanted to go with Yetter coulters again."

The SharkTooth Wheels clear a perfect path

Categories: Residue Managers

John Simon farms a small acreage near the Rock River in Jefferson County, Wisconsin. Where large-scale producers saw land with little potential for profitability, John was ready for the challenge. With the right management plan, his acreage is reaching its potential.

Part of that management plan was making the switch to no-till. With no-till came the challenges of residue management, and for that,John trusts the SharkTooth® wheels from Yetter. "The SharkTooth wheels clear a perfect path—I don’t even need a coulter."

John’s SharkTooth wheels are mounted to Yetter 2967 Pin Adjust Residue Managers on a John Deere six-row 7200 planter. The SharkTooth wheels replaced the standard finger wheels.

John finds the SharkTooth wheels can handle a wide range of situations. "When I switched to 30-inch row beans, I used the SharkTooth wheels. They never plugged, and they moved just the trash, even in my hilly sections.

"We can’t no-till near the river," John continued. "Where we plow, we get root balls, and the SharkTooth handles those as well."

John, also a salesman of seed for cover crops, recommends the SharkTooth wheels to his customers. "They operate as advertised and have been very durable."
